Procedures to keep your iPhone fast and efficient
Clean up the phone memory
First you need to check the available memory of your iPhone.
Excessive use of memory would inevitably lead to the slowdown of the iPhone and its performance. The preliminary advice is certainly to uninstall all unused applications.
Often, in fact, applications are downloaded out of curiosity or to try them without uninstalling them once they are used. Another fundamental tip to safeguard the physical memory of the phone is to move photos and videos to the cloud and subsequently delete them from the phone.
Cloud synchronization
In this regard, a little “trick” could be useful.
To synchronize our multimedia contents, in fact, the use of iCloud is not recommended. The 5 Giga free offered by the "apple" runs out quickly due to system backups and personal data.
By synchronizing our multimedia contents with a different cloud, however, we can leave the iPhone memory free and also safeguard the space on iCloud.
The advice is to use the Google Photos application and the free space offered by "Big G" to anyone with a Gmail account (is there still someone who doesn't have it?).
By installing Google Photos it will be possible to synchronize photos and videos directly to the Google cloud at "lightning speed".
The space, by agreeing to store the photos at a not exaggerated resolution, is unlimited. Furthermore, from time to time, we could “free up space on the phone” with the appropriate command on the app, obtaining the advantage of freeing up space on the phone and keeping our photos safe.
Always close background apps
Another very important aspect is to close all apps after use. In normal use we are used to clicking the home button or using the swipe up to close running applications.
Nothing more wrong. In this way, in fact, the apps continue to work in the background, so, especially on older models, the use of apps in the background causes the slowdown of active operations and on which we are working.
To close all background applications on models with the physical home button simply double click the home button to access the task manager.
Once all the pending apps have been displayed, just swipe up or click the X to permanently close the apps. If it is a phone with Face-ID the procedure is the same but to open the task manager you have to scroll from bottom to top until you see all the running applications.
Restrict location services
An aspect of fundamental importance for memory management but also for battery life is to Restrict access of location services to Applications. Any application we install now asks us for authorization to use the location services.
This is because connecting to the GPS of our phone provides a lot of information to the developers of the apps, information that is often useful to trace our profile and / or to offer personalized services.
A case in point could be that of airline applications. These apps ask for location access to pre-fill the nearest airport when we are about to buy a ticket.
To do this, however, the application will monitor our position 24 hours a day, even if we may make two flights a year. To avoid this problem we need to change some settings of our iPhone.
In the settings menu, under privacy, we find access to the "localization" section. On the page you will be able to check how many apps use our GPS connection. The advice is to set all apps to "Never" with the exception of navigation apps to be set to "While using the app".
The only "always" that we recommend keeping, at least until the COVID-19 emergency ceases, is that relating to the Immune app. These measures will allow the battery to last longer and avoid major slowdowns.
Perform a hard reset (full reset)
Performing a Hard Reset of the device from time to time to clean the ram memory is fast and very useful.
With this procedure, the phone gets rid of temporary files and also restores communication between the battery of the device and the operating system.
To perform the hard reset on models with a physical Home button (iPhones up to 6s), just hold down the home button and the power button simultaneously for 30 seconds.
On models with the "simulated" Home button (iphone 7, 7+) you must press the volume Down button and the power button for 30 seconds. On all other models (iphone 8 up to the latest models, you have to follow the sequence: volume up and release key, volume down and release key, power key and keep pressed until the device restarts.
App to speed up your phone
The last piece of advice we would like to give, in this first short guide, is to avoid apps that promise to always keep the device clean and optimized, as they are very invasive and work continuously in the background, affecting the speed and duration of the battery.
Obviously if your phone, despite the precautions, is still slow we recommend that you proceed with an upgrade of the model.
The models available on our site can be viewed in this section.
Do not forget that on our site there is the "Sell your smartphone" section where you can get an evaluation on your old device by taking the opportunity to collect the value in cash or reinvest it on a "new" device that can be purchased on our site.
In fact, by choosing the payment in "Likenewiphone Credits" you will get a valuation of 10% higher than the market value of your phone.
