My iPhone doesn't charge anymore... this is often the dilemma of owners of one of the "gems" of the "bitten apple". And, in fact, if you can find a defect on smartphones manufactured by Apple, it's the charging dock, the case that allows you to insert the lightning cable to charge your iPhone.
Since the birth of iPhone 7, with the disappearance of the 3.5mm jack, the lightning connector supplied with Cupertino phones has become even more important. In fact, even the earphones must be connected to the smartphone port, putting a strain on the connection.
However, the problem is not always dictated by a malfunction or a hardware problem. The case history, in fact, shows that often and willingly, the problem of failure to recharge or failure of the headset has nothing to do with the internal defects of the phone but, it seems almost blasphemous to say, are caused by dirt.
The physical characteristics of the charging dock of all iPhones (the same connection is present from the iPhone 5s to the modern iPhone 11 and on many iPad models) make it a natural "receptor" for everything we would never want to insert in our smartphones. Often our "technological jewels" are stored in pockets, handbags, backpacks or gym bags and, more and more often, they collect residues of dirt "nested" in the corners of trouser pockets rather than in the compartments of bags. This causes foreign bodies to enter the charging dock which, due to the morphology of the lightning connector, are then "pressed" into the bottom of the dock every time we connect the charging cable or headset.
This type of problem has often generated service interventions and, more than once, has led to the replacement of the charging dock at a considerable expense.

However, let's not forget that the problem of not charging our device may also depend on the wear and tear of the lightning cable as well as on a power supply that is no longer 100% functional. The advice is therefore to try to charge your phone or iPad with a different power supply and cable before attempting any technical intervention. However, periodically cleaning the charging socket is a preventative measure that helps to protect your smartphone, tablet and all accessories.
